activist and wife of Xavier University president emeritus Norman C.
Francis who was a member of Women of the Storm, a group that flew to
Washington three times after Hurricane Katrina to secure money to
restore the Gulf Coast after the storm (and later the British Petroleum
oil spill) and to persuade representatives and senators to visit the
area to see the devastation first-hand, and who was also a community
leader in New Orleans for more than 50 years.
