longtime mayor of Sterling Heights, Michigan who was the longest-serving incumbent mayor of Michigan's fourth largest city after he had served 10 years on the City Council and won 11 consecutive two-year terms starting in 1993,  but who had fought to keep the Sterling Heights Assembly Plant open after Chrysler's bankruptcy and celebrated the opening of new paint and body shops at the facility earlier this year, creating 800 new jobs.
