Summary: first-year teacher at Danwon High School on the outskirts of Seoul, South Korea who was among one of more than 295 passengers and crew members reported missing and presumed dead in the sinking of the ill-fated MV Sewol Ferry when the five-story ship carrying 476 people on board (mostly high school students traveling to Jeju Island on a four-day field trip) had reportedly capsized in the murky waters of the Yellow Sea off the southwest coast of the Korean Peninsula resulting with at least four people dead and nearly 300 others unaccounted for from the sunken vessel as Navy divers were trying to rescue hundreds of passengers during one of the country's biggest peacetime disasters in 20 years, in which the cause of the sinking is not known but the ferry's captain identified as 69-year-old Lee Joon-seok was arrested along with one of Sewol's three helmsmen and a 25-year-old third mate on suspicion of negligence and abandoning people in need.
