Summary: retired U.S. Navy veteran and the last known Michigan-born survivor of the USS Indianapolis sinking in 1945 when the ship was struck by a Japanese submarine and sank while it was returning on a secret mission to carry 1/3 of the atomic bomb to the South Pacific Tinian Island during World War II, in which the men were in the shark-infested ocean suffering from dehydration and exposure for five days, including one third of the surviving crew from the U.S.S. Indianapolis mission.
