Summary: Trinidadian actor, choreographer, dancer, composer, designer and painter who had packaged his many talents in a 6-foot-6 frame after he danced on Broadway and at the Metropolitan Opera and won Tony Awards in 1975 for musical direction and costume design for The Wiz (an all-black version of The Wizard of Oz), but who achieved his widest celebrity as the white-suited TV pitchman for 7Up in the 1970's and 1980's when in a run of commercials he endorsed the soft drink as an "absolutely maaarvelous" alternative to Coca-Cola (or "the Un-Cola"), and who also played the Indian servant Punjab in the 1982 film version of the Broadway musical Annie.
