and crew members reported missing and presumed dead aboard on the
ill-fated Air Algerie Flight 5017 passenger jet when the
Swiftair-operated aircraft en route from Burkina Faso to Algiers,
Algeria had disappeared off the radar about fifty minutes after
take-off before plummeting in the desert sands in northern Mali due to
a series of severe sandstorms, in which it became the third fatal
commercial airliner accident in a one-week span following the July 17
shoot-down of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 and the crash of TransAsia
Airways Flight 222 on July 23, 2014 but the cause of the crash is not
yet known as Malian authorities were conducting an investigation with
the assistance of France's Bureau of Enquiry and Analysis for Civil
Aviation Safety.
