Summary: founder of U.S.'s first suicide prevention hotline San Francisco Suicide Prevention who started his suicide prevention line in Sann Francisco, California in 1962 (he had no training but was willing to listen) when he placed cardboard ads on buses with a phone number and took calls in a basement room under the name of Bruce whose organization now handles 200 calls a day and has more than 100 volunteers and staffers, who was also a BBC radio correspondent and first station manager of San Francisco public radio station KQED-FM.
