Summary: prominent San Francisco appallate lawyer and prosecuting attorney who was part of the prosecution team that won the conviction of Jonestown lieutenant Larry Layton for conspiring to murder Congressman Leo Ryan and a diplomat in the 1978 massacre at the Guyana compound of the Peoples Temple cult led by Rev. Jim Jones (Layton was the only person tried and convicted in the United States), and who also won an appeals court ruling upholding the bank robbery conviction of newspaper heiress Patricia Hearst when she had been kidnapped by a group called the Symbionese Liberation Army, then joined her abductors and was found guilty of taking part in an armed holdup at a San Francisco bank in 1974.
