Summary: Turkish-born prominent Kurdish rights activist who became one of the co-founders (and the first and only female senior member) of the militant organization Kurdistan Worker's Party along with Kurdish guerilla leader Abdullah Ocalan who had been arrested and tortured by Turkish police on numerous occasions due to her revolutionary activism in the 1970's and 1980's, which later earned her a legendary status among the Kurdish rights movement.
