Summary: Finnish three-time Olympic cross-country skiing champion who had helped Finland to win the men's 10-kilometer relay at the 1960 Squaw Valley Olympics and won the 15- and 30-km individual races at the 1964 Innsbruck Games, but who also won two Olympic silver medals and two bronze medals as well as two world championship gold medals in Oslo, Norway in 1966 and Zakopane in 1962.
