Summary: legendary swimming coach and wife of former Asheville, North Carolina mayor and city councilman Dr. Wayne Montgomery who guided her daughter Mary to a berth on the 1972 Olympic Team in the 400-meter individual medley, where she finished 6th at the Munich Games as well as a 1975 silver medal in the 800-meter freestyle at the Pan Am Games, who became involved in youth sports with her five children and founded an AAU swim team called the Asheville Club in 1964 in part so her three daughters could compete in swimming.
