Summary: Japanese-American actress and playwright whose most iconic role was in the long-running 1970's Calgon detergent commercial that launched the phrase "Ancient Chinese Secret" into the pop culture lexicon, who appeared alongside Al Pacino in the Broadway show The Basic Training of Pavlo Hummel and in David Hare's Plenty with Julianne Moore in Washington, D.C., whose works as a fiction writer led to residencies at Yaddo, Ragdale, and Sarah Lawrence College, who won the Hawaiian Prize in 2009 for her play The Mango Tree, which was presented the previous year by The Pan Asian Repertory Company, and who has performed as an actor in many of their productions an actor during her early years in New York.
