Summary: retired director of the Agricultural Marketing and Development Division at the Minnesota Department of Agriculture who along with his wife Barbara Heil were believed to have been one of only two American passengers reported missing and presumed dead aboard on the ill-fated Italian cruise liner Costa Concordia after the vessel ran aground and capsized off the west coast of Italy at the Giglio island in the Mediterranean Sea, in which at least 30 passengers and crew members died in the shipwreck and two others were still missing, but more than 4,000 people evacuated during the disaster.
