Summary: veteran actor who played mentor Elijah Muhammad in Spike Lee's 1992 epic film Malcolm X and won a best-actor Daytime Emmy in 1979 for his long-running role as Capt. Ed Hall on the now-defunct soap opera One Life to Live, but who taught acting for years and was chairman and artistic director of the theater arts department at Howard University in Washington, D.C.
