Summary: U.S. Army corporal soldier known affectionately as "RJ" who had received two Purple Heart awards for wounds he received in Afghanistan as the sole survivor of a massive road bombing that killed seven of his comrades and their Afghan interpreter in his eight-man rifle squad when their heavily-armed vehicle was destroyed by a buried explosive device while on patrol as a 19-year-old in 2009 becoming one of the single-deadliest incident during the 5th Stryker Brigade's year-long deployment to Afghanistan, but who had been recently assigned to the Warrior Transition Battalion unit and was recuperating from injuries sustained during his military service.
