Summary: president and chairman of the South-West Conservative Association who had once been reckoned to become involved in a "miraculous escape" in the IRA's bombing of the Grand Hotel in Brighton, England on October 12, 1984 in which his first wife Jeanne was one of five people to die as the couple were staying at the hotel for the Conservative Party conference along with former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and her cabinet ministers.
