helicopter pilot and Caribbean desk officer for the U.S. Southern Command headquarters deployed to Haiti on an assignment for an official meeting with Haitian defense and security counterparts who was among one of more than 2,000 American foreigners reported missing and presumed dead following the 7.0-magnitude earthquake in Haiti that killed approximately 316,000 people and injured over 250,000 others during a series of severe aftershocks, which caused major damages to at least 30,000 commercial buildings and destroyed much of the Caribbean island's infrastructure region becoming one of the most powerful earthquakes to strike the country in 200 years.
