Apfelbaum, Inc. considered as one of the best known professional philatelists (stamp dealers) in the U.S. who was the first person to publicly use the term "Black Friday" in a December 1966 newspaper commentary, in which it had previously been a term used internally by the Philadelphia police to describe the traffic chaos on the day following Thanksgiving after he gave it the meaning known by many others describing the crush of customers in his large retail outlet.
