Summary: convicted murderer who was sentenced to death for the 1983 pickax murders of acquaintance Jerry Lynn Dean and his female companion Deborah Thornton in an attempt to steal a motorcycle and became the first woman to be executed in Texas in 135 years, but who had also inspired an unusually large national and international movement advocating the commutation of her sentence to life imprisonment because of her gender and widely publicized conversion to Christianity in a movement which also included a few foreign government officials.
