Summary: Swedish career diplomat who as chief administrative officer of the United Nations Council for Namibia had helped guide the African country toward independence, who was appointed as the U.N. Commissioner for Namibia in 1987 and was closely involved in efforts to achieve independence for the South African-ruled territory of Namibia (also known as South-West Africa), who worked behind the scenes as the late Swedish prime minister Olaf Palme's special emissary to the Middle East, which included handling relations with the Palestine Liberation Organization, who was personal secretary and adviser to Sweden's trade minister from 1967 to 1970, served as an undersecretary of state in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and was international secretary of the Swedish Social Democratic Party from 1970 until 1976.
