Hirschsprung's disease

Entry: Megacolon. A congenital disease which enormous enlargement of the bowel secondary to absence of essential nerve fibers. It is characterized by chronic constipation and retarded development. The disease can be cured surgically.

Etymology: Named after Danish physician Harald Hirschsprung (d. 1916).
